MOV : കനാനിലെ യുദ്ധങ്ങളൊന്നും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഒക്കെയും പരീക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും
KJV : Now these [are] the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, [even] as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
YLT : And these [are] the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;
RV : Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
RSV : Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had no experience of any war in Canaan;

ESV : Now these are the nations that the LORD left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan.
ERVEN : The Lord did not force all the other nations to leave Israel's land. He wanted to test the Israelites. None of the Israelites living at this time had fought in the wars to take the land of Canaan. So the Lord let those other nations stay in their country. (The Lord did this to teach the Israelites who had not fought in those wars.) Here are the names of the nations the Lord left in the land:

MOV : യുദ്ധം അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ തലമുറകളെ യുദ്ധം അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നുമായി യഹോവ വെച്ചിരുന്ന ജാതികളാവിതു:
KJV : Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

YLT : five princes of the Philistines, and all the Canaanite, and the Zidonian, and the Hivite inhabiting mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering in of Hamath;

ERVEN : the five rulers of the Philistines, all of the Canaanites, the people of Sidon, and the Hivites who lived in the Lebanon mountains from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath.

MOV : മോശെമുഖാന്തരം യഹോവ അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കല്പിച്ച കല്പനകൾ അനുസരിക്കുമോ എന്നു അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേലിനെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചറിവാൻ ആയിരുന്നു ഇവരെ വെച്ചിരുന്നതു.
KJV : And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

ERVEN : The Lord left those nations in the land to test the Israelites. He wanted to see if the Israelites would obey the Lord's commands that he had given to their ancestors through Moses.

ERVEN : The Israelites began to marry the daughters of those people. They allowed their own daughters to marry the sons of those people. The Israelites also began to worship their gods.

KJV : And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.
YLT : and the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and forget Jehovah their God, and serve the Baalim and the shrines.

KJV : Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
YLT : And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;

ERVEN : The Lord was angry with the Israelites, so he allowed King Cushan Rishathaim of Aram Naharaim to defeat the Israelites and to rule over them. The Israelites were under that king's rule for eight years.

KJV : And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, [even] Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.
YLT : and the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth a saviour to the sons of Israel, and he saveth them -- Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb`s younger brother;

ERVEN : But the Israelites cried to the Lord for help, and the Lord sent a man named Othniel to save them. He was the son of Kenaz, who was Caleb's younger brother. Othniel saved the Israelites.

KJV : And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushan- rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan- rishathaim.
YLT : and the Spirit of Jehovah is upon him, and he judgeth Israel, and goeth out to battle, and Jehovah giveth unto his hand Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram, and strong is his hand against Chushan-Rishathaim;

ERVEN : The Spirit of the Lord filled Othniel, and he became a judge for the Israelites. He led the Israelites to war. The Lord helped Othniel defeat King Cushan Rishathaim of Aram.

ERVEN : Eglon got help from the Ammonites and the Amalekites. They joined him and attacked the Israelites. Eglon and his army defeated the Israelites and forced them to leave the City of Palm Trees (Jericho).

KJV : But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.
YLT : And the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man -- shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

ERVEN : The Israelites cried to the Lord for help, so he sent a man named Ehud son of Gera to save them. Ehud was from the tribe of Benjamin and was trained to fight with his left hand. The Israelites sent Ehud with a gift to King Eglon of Moab.

ERVEN : Ehud made himself a sword with two sharp edges that was about 12 inches long. He tied the sword to his right thigh and hid it under his uniform.

KJV : And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon [was] a very fat man.
YLT : and he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon [is] a very fat man.

ERVEN : When Ehud reached the statues near Gilgal, he turned and went back to King Eglon and said, "King, I have a secret message for you." The king told him to be quiet and then sent all of the servants out of the room.

ERVEN : The servants waited for a long time, but the king never opened the doors to the upper room. Finally the servants got worried. They got the key and unlocked the doors. When the servants entered, they saw their king lying dead on the floor.
