MOV : യോനെക്കു ഇതു അത്യന്തം അനിഷ്ടമായി, അവന്നു കോപം വന്നു.
KJV : But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
YLT : And it is grievous unto Jonah -- a great evil -- and he is displeased at it;

MOV : അവൻ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു: അയ്യോ, യഹോവേ, ഞാൻ എന്റെ ദേശത്തു ആയിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു ഇതു തന്നേ അല്ലയോ? അതുകൊണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഞാൻ തർശീശിലേക്കു ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ഓടിപ്പോയതു; നീ കൃപയും കരുണയും ദീർഘക്ഷമയും മഹാദയയുമുള്ള ദൈവമായി അനർത്ഥത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു അനുതപിക്കുന്നവൻ എന്നു ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞു.
KJV : And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, [was] not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou [art] a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
YLT : and he prayeth unto Jehovah, and he saith, `I pray Thee, O Jehovah, is not this my word while I was in mine own land -- therefore I was beforehand to flee to Tarshish -- that I have known that Thou [art] a God, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, and repenting of evil?
RV : And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hasted to flee unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and full of compassion, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy, and repentest thee of the evil.
RSV : And he prayed to the LORD and said, "I pray thee, LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repentest of evil.
ASV : And he prayed unto Jehovah, and said, I pray thee, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hasted to flee unto Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
ESV : And he prayed to the LORD and said, "O LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.
ERVEN : He complained to the Lord and said, "I knew this would happen! I was in my own country, and you told me to come here. At that time I knew that you would forgive the people of this evil city, so I decided to run away to Tarshish. I knew that you are a kind God. I knew that you show mercy and don't want to punish people. I knew that you are kind, and if these people stopped sinning, you would change your plans to destroy them.

MOV : ആകയാൽ യഹോവേ, എന്റെ പ്രാണനെ എടുത്തുകൊള്ളേണമേ; ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ മരിക്കുന്നതു എനിക്കു നന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
KJV : Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for [it is] better for me to die than to live.
YLT : And now, O Jehovah, take, I pray Thee, my soul from me, for better [is] my death than my life.`
RV : Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

YLT : And Jehovah saith, `Is doing good displeasing to thee?`

ERVEN : Then the Lord said, "Do you think it is right for you to be angry just because I did not destroy those people?"

MOV : അനന്തരം യോനാ നഗരം വിട്ടുചെന്നു നഗരത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കേവശത്തു ഇരുന്നു; അവിടെ ഒരു കുടിലുണ്ടാക്കി നഗരത്തിന്നു എന്തു ഭവിക്കും എന്നു കാണുവോളം അതിൻ കീഴെ തണലിൽ പാർത്തു.
KJV : So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
YLT : And Jonah goeth forth from the city, and sitteth on the east of the city, and maketh to himself there a booth, and sitteth under it in the shade, till that he seeth what is in the city.

KJV : And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made [it] to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

ERVEN : The Lord made a gourd plant grow quickly over Jonah. This made a cool place for Jonah to sit and helped him to be more comfortable. He was very happy because of this plant.

MOV : അതിന്നു യഹോവ നീ അദ്ധ്വാനിക്കയോ വളർത്തുകയൊ ചെയ്യാതെ ഒരു രാത്രിയിൽ ഉണ്ടായ്‍വരികയും ഒരു രാത്രിയിൽ നശിച്ചുപോകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്ന ആവണക്കിനെക്കുറിച്ചു നിനക്കു അയ്യോഭാവം തോന്നുന്നുവല്ലോ.
KJV : Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
YLT : And Jehovah saith, `Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for which thou didst not labour, neither didst thou nourish it, which a son of a night was, and a son of a night perished,
RV : And the LORD said, Thou hast had pity on the gourd; for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
RSV : And the LORD said, "You pity the plant, for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night, and perished in a night.

MOV : എന്നാൽ വലങ്കയ്യും ഇടങ്കയ്യും തമ്മിൽ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാത്ത ഒരുല്കഷത്തിരുപതി നായിരത്തിൽ ചില്‌വാനം മനുഷ്യരും അനേകം മൃഗങ്ങളുമുള്ള മഹാനഗരമായ നീനെവേയോടു എനിക്കു അയ്യോഭാവം തോന്നരുതോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
KJV : And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
YLT : and I -- have not I pity on Nineveh, the great city, in which there are more than twelve myriads of human beings, who have not known between their right hand and their left -- and much cattle!`
RV : and should not I have pity on Nineveh, that great city; wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
RSV : And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?"
ASV : and should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
ESV : And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?"
ERVEN : If you can get upset over a plant, surely I can feel sorry for a big city like Nineveh. There are many people and animals in that city. There are more than 120,000 people there who did not know they were doing wrong."
