MOV : നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു മഹാനഗരമായ നീനെവേയിലേക്കു ചെന്നു അതിന്നു വിരോധമായി പ്രസംഗിക്ക; അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടത എന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
KJV : Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
YLT : `Rise, go unto Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim against it that their wickedness hath come up before Me.`

KJV : But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

ERVEN : But Jonah tried to run away from the Lord. He went to Joppa and found a boat that was going to the faraway city of Tarshish. Jonah paid money for the trip and went on the boat. He wanted to travel with the people on this boat to Tarshish and run away from the Lord.

MOV : യഹോവയോ സമുദ്രത്തിൽ ഒരു പെരുങ്കാറ്റു അടിപ്പിച്ചു; കപ്പൽ തകർന്നു പോകുവാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം സമുദ്രത്തിൽ വലിയൊരു കോൾ ഉണ്ടായി.

MOV : കപ്പൽക്കാർ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു ഓരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ ദേവനോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു; കപ്പലിന്നു ഭാരം കുറെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവർ അതിലെ ചരക്കു സമുദ്രത്തിൽ എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു. യോനയോ കപ്പലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിൽ ഇറങ്ങി കിടന്നു നല്ലവണ്ണം ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു.
KJV : Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that [were] in the ship into the sea, to lighten [it] of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

ERVEN : The men wanted to make the boat lighter to stop it from sinking, so they began throwing the cargo into the sea. The sailors were very afraid. Each man began praying to his god. Jonah had gone down into the boat to lie down, and he went to sleep.

MOV : കപ്പൽപ്രമാണി അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു അവനോടു: നീ ഉറങ്ങുന്നതു എന്തു? എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിന്റെ ദൈവത്തെ വിളിച്ചപേക്ഷിക്ക; നാം നശിച്ചുപോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം പക്ഷേ നമ്മെ കടാക്ഷിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
KJV : So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
YLT : And the chief of the company draweth near to him, and saith to him, `What -- to thee, O sleeper? rise, call unto thy God, it may be God doth bethink himself of us, and we do not perish.`

MOV : അനന്തരം അവർ: വരുവിൻ; ആരുടെ നിമിത്തം ഈ അനർത്ഥം നമ്മുടെമേൽ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം ചീട്ടിടുക എന്നു തമ്മിൽ തമ്മിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ചീട്ടിട്ടു; ചീട്ടു യോനെക്കു വീണു.
KJV : And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil [is] upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
YLT : And they say each unto his neighbour, `Come, and we cast lots, and we know on whose account this evil [is] on us.` And they cast lots, and the lot falleth on Jonah.

ERVEN : Then the men said to each other, "We should throw lots to find out why this is happening to us." So the men threw lots. The lots showed that the troubles came to them because of Jonah.

MOV : അവർ അവനോടു: ആരുടെനിമിത്തം ഈ അനർത്ഥം നമ്മുടെമേൽ വന്നു എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞുതരേണം; നിന്റെ തൊഴിൽ എന്തു? നീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു? നിന്റെ നാടു ഏതു? നീ ഏതു ജാതിക്കാരൻ? എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
KJV : Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil [is] upon us; What [is] thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what [is] thy country? and of what people [art] thou?
YLT : And they say unto him, `Declare to us, we pray thee, on what account this evil [is] on us? what [is] thine occupation, and whence comest thou? what [is] thy country, seeing thou art not of this people?`
RV : Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; what is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

ERVEN : Then the men said to Jonah, "It is your fault that this terrible thing is happening to us. Tell us, what have you done? What is your job? Where do you come from? What is your country? Who are your people?"

MOV : അതിന്നു അവൻ അവരോടു: ഞാൻ ഒരു എബ്രായൻ, കടലും കരയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഞാൻ ഭജിച്ചുവരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
KJV : And he said unto them, I [am] an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry [land. ]
YLT : And he saith unto them, `A Hebrew I [am], and Jehovah, God of the heavens, I am reverencing, who made the sea and the dry land.`

MOV : ആ പുരുഷന്മാർ അത്യന്തം ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവനോടു: നീ എന്തിന്നു അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ അവരോടു അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്നു ഓടിപ്പോകുന്നു എന്നു അവർ അറിഞ്ഞു.
KJV : Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

ERVEN : Jonah told the men he was running away from the Lord. The men became very afraid when they learned this. They asked Jonah, "What terrible thing did you do against your God?"

MOV : എന്നാൽ സമുദ്രം മേല്ക്കുമേൽ അധികം കോപിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവർ അവനോടു: സമുദ്രം അടങ്ങുവാന്തക്കവണ്ണം ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നോടു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
KJV : Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
YLT : And they say unto him, `What do we do to thee that the sea may cease from us, for the sea is more and more tempestuous?`

ERVEN : The wind and the waves of the sea were becoming stronger and stronger. So the men said to Jonah, "What should we do to save ourselves? What should we do to you to make the sea calm?"

MOV : എന്നാൽ അവർ കരെക്കു അടുക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു മുറുകെ തണ്ടുവലിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും സമുദ്രം കോപിച്ചു കോൾ പെരുകി വന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവർക്കു സാധിച്ചില്ല.
KJV : Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring [it] to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
YLT : And the men row to turn back unto the dry land, and are not able, for the sea is more and more tempestuous against them.

MOV : അവർ യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു: അയ്യോ യഹോവേ, ഈ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ജീവൻ നിമിത്തം ഞങ്ങൾ നശിച്ചുപോകരുതേ; നിർദ്ദോഷരക്തം ചൊരിയിച്ച കുറ്റം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വരുത്തരുതേ; യഹോവേ, നിനക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായതു പോലെ നീ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു
KJV : Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
YLT : And they cry unto Jehovah, and say, `We pray Thee, O Jehovah, let us not, we pray Thee, perish for this man`s life, and do not lay on us innocent blood, for Thou, Jehovah, as Thou hast pleased, Thou hast done.`

ERVEN : So the men cried to the Lord, "Lord, please don't say we are guilty of killing an innocent man. Please don't make us die for killing him. We know you are the Lord, and you will do whatever you want."

KJV : Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
