ಆದರೆ ಯೋನಾತಾನನಿಗೆ ಈ ಶಾಪದ ಕುರಿತು ತಿಳಿದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ; ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಯೋನಾತಾನನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕೋಲಿತ್ತು. ಅವನು ಆ ಕೋಲನ್ನು ಜೇನುಗೂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಚುಚ್ಚಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜೇನನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ತಿಂದನು. ಆಗ ಅವನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬಲಗೊಂಡನು.
