ಮೋಶೆಯು ಇಸ್ರೇಲರನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸಿದ್ದು ಯೆಹೋವನು ದೇವದರ್ಶನಗುಡಾರದೊಳಗೆ ಮೋಶೆಯೊಡನೆ ಮಾತಾಡಿದನು. ಆಗ ದೇವದರ್ಶನಗುಡಾರವು ಸೀನಾಯಿ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಇಸ್ರೇಲರು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟ ಎರಡನೆಯ ವರ್ಷದ ಎರಡನೆಯ ತಿಂಗಳಿನ ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಯೆಹೋವನು ಮೋಶೆಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದರೆ:
