ఇశ్రాయేలు జనాభా లెక్కలు తీయటానికి దావీదు నిర్ణయించాడు. అయితే వారు అసంఖ్యాకంగా వున్నారు. ఎందువల్లననగా దేవుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు వారిని ఆకాశంలో నక్షత్రాల్లా వృద్ధిచేస్తానని చెప్పాడు. అందువల్ల దావీదు ఇరవై ఏండ్ల వయస్సు వారిని, అంతకు పైబడిన వయస్సు వారిని మాత్రమే లెక్కించమన్నాడు.
