అమ్మోనీయులు దావీదు రాజుతో శతృత్వం తెచ్చి పెట్టుకున్నామని తెలుసుకున్నారు. దానితో వారు సైన్యాన్ని సమకూర్చుకొనే ప్రయత్నంలో బేత్రెహోబు, సోబాలలోవున్న సిరియనులను జీతానికి పిలిపించుకొన్నారు. సిరియను కాల్బలము ఇరువది వేల వరకు వుంది. ఒక వెయ్యిమంది సైనికులతో సహా మయకా రాజును, టోబునుండి పన్నెండు వేలమందిని జీతానికి పిలిపించుకొన్నారు.

ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರು ತಾವು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಾಗಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರು ಹಣಕೊಟ್ಟು ಬೇತ್ರೆಹೋಬ್ ಮತ್ತು ಚೋಬಾಗಳಿಂದ ಅರಾಮ್ಯರ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತುಸಾವಿರ ಮಂದಿ ಭೂದಳವನ್ನು ಬರಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರು ಮಾಕಾದ ರಾಜನನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಅವನ ಒಂದು ಸಾವಿರ ಸೈನಿಕರನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಟೋಬ್ನಿಂದ ಹನ್ನೆರಡು ಸಾವಿರ ಮಂದಿ ಸೈನಿಕರನ್ನು ಬರಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು.
