BNV : কনান দেশেও প্রবলভাবে দুর্ভিক্ষ হলো| যাকোব জানতে পারল য়ে মিশর দেশে শস্য রয়েছে| তাই যাকোব তার পুত্রদের বলল, “আমরা কিছু না করে কেন এখানে বসে রযেছি?
KJV : Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?
YLT : And Jacob seeth that there is corn in Egypt, and Jacob saith to his sons, `Why do you look at each other?`
RV : Now Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, and Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?
RSV : When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why do you look at one another?"
ASV : Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?
ESV : When Jacob learned that there was grain for sale in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why do you look at one another?"
ERVEN : During the famine in Canaan, Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt. So he said to his sons, "Why are you sitting here doing nothing?

BNV : শুনলাম মিশর দেশে শস্য বিক্রি হচ্ছে| সেখানে গিয়ে আমরা শস্য কিনি| তাহলে আমরা বাঁচব| মরব না!”
KJV : And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.
YLT : he saith also, `Lo, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt, go down thither, and buy for us from thence, and we live and do not die;`
RV : And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.

BNV : তাই য়োষেফের দশ ভাই মিশরে শস্য কিনতে গেলেন|
KJV : And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.
YLT : and the ten brethren of Joseph go down to buy corn in Egypt,
RV : And Joseph-s ten brethren went down to buy corn from Egypt.
RSV : So ten of Joseph's brothers went down to buy grain in Egypt.

BNV : যাকোব কিন্তু বিন্যামীনকে পাঠালেন না| (কেবল বিন্যামীনই য়োষেফের সহোদর ভাই ছিলেন|) যাকোব ভয় পেলেন পাছে বিন্যামীনের খারাপ কিছু ঘটে|
KJV : But Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him.
YLT : and Benjamin, Joseph`s brother, Jacob hath not sent with his brethren, for he said, `Lest mischief meet him.`
RV : But Benjamin, Joseph-s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him.
RSV : But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with his brothers, for he feared that harm might befall him.

ERVEN : Jacob did not send Benjamin. (Benjamin was Joseph's only full brother. ) Jacob was afraid that something bad might happen to Benjamin.

BNV : কনানেও দুর্ভিক্ষ ভযাবহ রূপ নিল ফলে কনান দেশের বহু লোক মিশরে শস্য কিনতে গেল| তাদের মধ্যে ইস্রাযেলের সন্তানরাও ছিলেন|
KJV : And the sons of Israel came to buy [corn] among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
YLT : And the sons of Israel come to buy in the midst of those coming, for the famine hath been in the land of Canaan,
RV : And the sons of Israel came to buy among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
RSV : Thus the sons of Israel came to buy among the others who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.

ERVEN : The famine was very bad in Canaan, so there were many people from Canaan who went to Egypt to buy grain. Among them were the sons of Israel.

BNV : সেই সময় য়োষেফ মিশর দেশের রাজ্যপাল ছিলেন| আর য়ে সব লোক মিশরে শস্য কিনতে আসত তাদের উপর য়োষেফ নজর রাখতেন| তাই য়োষেফের ভাইরাও তার কাছে এসে হেঁট হয়ে প্রণাম করল|
KJV : And Joseph [was] the governor over the land, [and] he [it was] that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him [with] their faces to the earth.
YLT : and Joseph is the ruler over the land, he who is selling to all the people of the land, and Joseph`s brethren come and bow themselves to him -- face to the earth.
RV : And Joseph was the governor over the land; he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph-s brethren came, and bowed down themselves to him with their faces to the earth.

ERVEN : Joseph was the governor of Egypt at the time. He was the one who checked the sale of grain to people who came to Egypt to buy it. Joseph's brothers came to him and bowed before him.

BNV : য়োষেফ তাঁর ভাইদের দেখে চিনতে পারলেন, কিন্তু এমন ভান করলেন য়েন তাদের চেনেনই না| তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে কর্কশভাবে কথা বললেন| তিনি বললেন, “তোমরা কোথা থেকে এসেছ?”ভাইরা উত্তর দিল, “আমরা কনান দেশ থেকে এখানে খাদ্য কিনতে এসেছি|”
KJV : And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.
YLT : And Joseph seeth his brethren, and discerneth them, and maketh himself strange unto them, and speaketh with them sharp things, and saith unto them, `From whence have ye come?` and they say, `From the land of Canaan -- to buy food.`

ESV : Joseph saw his brothers and recognized them, but he treated them like strangers and spoke roughly to them. "Where do you come from?" he said. They said, "From the land of Canaan, to buy food."
ERVEN : Joseph saw his brothers and recognized them, but he acted like he didn't know them. He was rude when he spoke to them. He said, "Where do you come from?" The brothers answered, "We have come from the land of Canaan to buy food."

BNV : য়োষেফ জানতেন য়ে এই লোকরাই তার ভাই কিন্তু তারা য়োষেফকে চিনল না|
KJV : And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
YLT : And Joseph discerneth his brethren, but they have not discerned him,
RV : And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
RSV : Thus Joseph knew his brothers, but they did not know him.
ASV : And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
ESV : And Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him.
ERVEN : Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not know who he was.

BNV : আর ভাইদের নিয়ে য়োষেফ য়ে স্বপ্নগুলি দেখেছিলেন তা তাঁর মনে পড়ে গেল|য়োষেফ তাঁর ভাইদের বললেন, “তোমরা এখানে শস্য কিনতে আস নি! তোমরা গুপ্তচর| তোমরা আমাদের দুর্বল জায়গাগুলো জানতে এসেছ|”
KJV : And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye [are] spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
YLT : and Joseph remembereth the dreams which he dreamed of them, and saith unto them, `Ye [are] spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye have come.`
RV : And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.

ERVEN : Then Joseph remembered the dreams that he had dreamed about his brothers. Joseph said to his brothers, "You have not come to buy food! You are spies. You came to learn where we are weak."

BNV : কিন্তু তার ভাইরা বলল, “তা নয় মহাশয়! আমরা আপনার দাস, কেবল খাদ্য কিনতে এসেছি|”
KJV : And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.
YLT : And they say unto him, `No, my lord, but thy servants have come to buy food;
RV : And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.
RSV : They said to him, "No, my lord, but to buy food have your servants come.
ASV : And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.
ESV : They said to him, "No, my lord, your servants have come to buy food.
ERVEN : But the brothers said to him, "No, sir, we come as your servants. We have come only to buy food.

BNV : আমরা ভাইরা এক পিতার সন্তান| আমরা সত্‌ লোক, আমরা কেবল খাদ্য কিনতে এসেছি|”
KJV : We [are] all one man’s sons; we [are] true [men,] thy servants are no spies.
YLT : we [are] all of us sons of one man, we [are] right men; thy servants have not been spies;`
RV : We are all one man-s sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.
RSV : We are all sons of one man, we are honest men, your servants are not spies."
ASV : We are all one mans sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.

ERVEN : We are all brothers— we all have the same father. We are honest men. We have come only to buy food."

BNV : তখন য়োষেফ তাদের বললেন, “তা নয়, কিন্তু তোমরা আমাদের কোথায় দুর্বলতা তাই দেখতে এসেছ|”
KJV : And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
YLT : and he saith unto them, `No, but the nakedness of the land ye have come to see;`
RV : And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
RSV : He said to them, "No, it is the weakness of the land that you have come to see."
ASV : And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
ESV : He said to them, "No, it is the nakedness of the land that you have come to see."
ERVEN : Then Joseph said to them, "No, you have come to spy on us!"

BNV : আর ভাইরা বলল, “না! আমরা সবাই ভাই ভাই! আমাদের পরিবারে আমরা বারো ভাই| আমাদের সকলের পিতা একজনই| ছোট ভাই এখনও আমাদের পিতার কাছে রয়েছে| অন্য ভাইটি বহু বছর আগে মারা গেছে| আমরা আপনার দাস, কনান দেশ থেকে এসেছি|”
KJV : And they said, Thy servants [are] twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest [is] this day with our father, and one [is] not.
YLT : and they say, `Thy servants [are] twelve brethren; we [are] sons of one man in the land of Canaan, and lo, the young one [is] with our father to-day, and the one is not.`
RV : And they said, We thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.
RSV : And they said, "We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is no more."

ERVEN : And the brothers said, "No, sir, we come as servants from Canaan. We are all brothers, sons of the same father. There were twelve brothers in our family. Our youngest brother is still at home with our father, and the other brother died a long time ago."

BNV : কিন্তু য়োষেফ তাদের বলল, “না! আমি দেখছি আমার কথাই ঠিক| তোমরা গুপ্তচরই বটে|”
KJV : And Joseph said unto them, That [is it] that I spake unto you, saying, Ye [are] spies:
YLT : And Joseph saith unto them, `This [is] that which I have spoken unto you, saying, Ye [are] spies,
RV : And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:
RSV : But Joseph said to them, "It is as I said to you, you are spies.
ASV : And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:

ERVEN : But Joseph said to them, "No! I can see that I am right. You are spies.

BNV : কিন্তু তোমরা য়ে সত্য বলছ তা আমি তোমাদের প্রমাণ করতে দেব| ফরৌণের নামে দিব্য়ি দিয়ে বলছি, য়ে পর্য্ন্ত না তোমাদের ছোট ভাই এখানে আসে আমি তোমাদের য়েতে দেব না|
KJV : Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither.
YLT : by this ye are proved: Pharaoh liveth! if ye go out from this -- except by your young brother coming hither;
RV : hereby ye shall be proved: by the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither.
RSV : By this you shall be tested: by the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go from this place unless your youngest brother comes here.

BNV : আমি তোমাদের একজনকে য়েতে দেব য়ে ছোট ভাইকে আমার কাছে নিয়ে আসবে, সেই সময়ে তোমরা কারাগারে থাকবে| আমরা দেখব য়ে তোমাদের কথা সত্যি কিনা, যদিও আমার বিশ্বাস য়ে তোমরা গুপ্তচর|”
KJV : Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether [there be any] truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye [are] spies.
YLT : send one of you, and let him bring your brother, and ye, remain ye bound, and let your words be proved, whether truth be with you: and if not -- Pharaoh liveth! surely ye [are] spies;`
RV : Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be bound, that your words may be proved, whether there be truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies.

ERVEN : One of you must go back to get your youngest brother while the rest of you stay here in prison. Then we can prove whether you are telling the truth or not. If you are not telling the truth, then by Pharaoh, I swear that you are spies!"

BNV : তারপর য়োষেফ তাদের তিনদিনের জন্য কারাগারে রাখলেন|
KJV : And he put them all together into ward three days.
YLT : and he removeth them unto charge three days.
RV : And he put them all together into ward three days.

BNV : তিন দিন পরে য়োষেফ তাদের বললেন, “আমি ঈশ্বরকে ভয় করি! এই কাজ করলে তোমরা বাঁচবে|
KJV : And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; [for] I fear God:
YLT : And Joseph saith unto them on the third day, `This do and live; God I fear!
RV : And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:
RSV : On the third day Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God:

ERVEN : After three days Joseph said to them, "I am a God-fearing man. Do this, and I will let you live.

BNV : তোমরা যদি সত্যিই সত্‌ লোক হও তবে তোমাদের এক ভাই এখানে এই কারাগারে থাকুক| অন্যরা শস্য বহন করে আপনজনের কাছে নিয়ে য়েতে পারে|
KJV : If ye [be] true [men,] let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:
YLT : if ye [are] right men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your ward, and ye, go, carry in corn [for] the famine of your houses,
RV : if ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in your prison house; but go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:
RSV : if you are honest men, let one of your brothers remain confined in your prison, and let the rest go and carry grain for the famine of your households,
ASV : if ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in your prison-house; but go ye, carry grain for the famine of your houses:

ERVEN : If you are honest men, one of your brothers can stay here in prison, and the others can go and carry grain back to your people.

BNV : কিন্তু তোমরা অবশ্যই ছোট ভাইকে এখানে আমার কাছে নিয়ে আসবে| তাহলে আমি জানব য়ে তোমরা সত্য বলছ এবং তোমরা প্রাণে বাঁচবে|”ভাইরা এতে সম্মতি জানাল|
KJV : But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.
YLT : and your young brother ye bring unto me, and your words are established, and ye die not;` and they do so.
RV : and bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.
RSV : and bring your youngest brother to me; so your words will be verified, and you shall not die." And they did so.

ERVEN : But then you must bring your youngest brother back here to me. Then I will know that you are telling the truth, and you will not have to die." The brothers agreed to this.

BNV : তারা একে অপরকে বলল, “আমরা য়োষেফের প্রতি য়ে অন্যায় কাজ করেছিলাম তার জন্য এই শাস্তি পাচ্ছি| আমরা তার কষ্ট দেখেও তার প্রাণের জন্য বিনতি শুনতে অস্বীকার করেছিলাম, আর এখন তাই আমরা এই সমস্যায় পড়েছি|”
KJV : And they said one to another, We [are] verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
YLT : And they say one unto another, `Verily we [are] guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul, in his making supplication unto us, and we did not hearken: therefore hath this distress come upon us.`
RV : And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
RSV : Then they said to one another, "In truth we are guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he besought us and we would not listen; therefore is this distress come upon us."
ASV : And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
ESV : Then they said to one another, "In truth we are guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us and we did not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us."
ERVEN : They said to each other, "We are being punished for the bad thing we did to our younger brother Joseph. We saw the trouble he was in. He begged us to save him, but we refused to listen. So now we are in trouble."

BNV : তখন রূবেণ তাদের বলল, “আমি তোমাদের বলেছিলাম ঐ ছেলেটার প্রতি কোন অন্যায় কোর না| কিন্তু তোমরা আমার কথা শুনতে চাও নি| তাই এখন তার মৃত্যুর জন্য আমরা শাস্তি পাচ্ছি|”
KJV : And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
YLT : And Reuben answereth them, saying, `Spake I not unto you, saying, Sin not against the lad? and ye hearkened not; and his blood also, lo, it is required.`
RV : And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore also, behold, his blood is required.
RSV : And Reuben answered them, "Did I not tell you not to sin against the lad? But you would not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood."
ASV : And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore also, behold, his blood is required.
ESV : And Reuben answered them, "Did I not tell you not to sin against the boy? But you did not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood."
ERVEN : Then Reuben said to them, "I told you not to do anything bad to that boy, but you refused to listen to me. Now we are being punished for his death."

BNV : য়োষেফ ভাইদের সঙ্গে কথা বলার জন্য অনুবাদক ব্যবহার করছিলেন| তাই ভাইরা বুঝল না য়ে য়োষেফ তাদের ভাষা বুঝতে পারছেন| কিন্তু য়োষেফ যা শুনছিলেন তার সব কিছুই বুঝলেন| তাদের কথাবার্তা য়োষেফকে দুঃখিত করল|
KJV : And they knew not that Joseph understood [them;] for he spake unto them by an interpreter.
YLT : And they have not known that Joseph understandeth, for the interpreter [is] between them;
RV : And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them.
RSV : They did not know that Joseph understood them, for there was an interpreter between them.

ERVEN : Joseph was using an interpreter to talk to his brothers, so the brothers did not know that he understood their language. He heard and understood everything they said, and that made him want to cry. So he turned away and left the room. When he came back, he took one of the brothers, Simeon, and tied him up while the others watched.

BNV : তাই য়োষেফ তাদের থেকে দূরে গিয়ে কাঁদলেন| কিছুক্ষণ পরে য়োষেফ আবার তাদের কাছে ফিরে এলেন| তিনি শিমিয়োনকে ধরে তাদের সামনেই বাঁধলেন|
