ಸೌಲನು ಕತ್ತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದನು. ಸೌಲನು ಮತ್ತು ಅವನ ಸೇವಕನು ಎಫ್ರಾಯೀಮ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಡುಕಿದರೂ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕತ್ತೆಗಳು ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ಶಾಲೀಮ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹುಡುಕಿದರು; ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಅವರ ಕತ್ತೆಗಳು ಸಿಕ್ಕಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ಬೆನ್ಯಾಮೀನನ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹುಡುಕಿದರು; ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಅವರ ಕತ್ತೆಗಳು ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.

शौल त्याप्रमाणे आपल्या वडीलांच्या गाढवांच्या शोधार्थ निघाला. एफ्राईमचा डोंगराळ प्रदेश, शलीशाच्या भोवतालचा प्रांत पालथा घातला तरी त्याला आणि त्याच्या नोकराला गाढवे सापडेनात. तेव्हा ते शालीम प्रांतात गेले. पण तिथेही शोध लागला नाही. म्हणून पुढे ते बन्यामीन प्रदेशातून हिंडले. पण गाढवे मिळाली नाहीतच.
