దావీదు సైనికులతో మాట్లాడుతుండగా అతని పెద్ద అన్న ఏలీయాబు విన్నాడు. దావీదు మీద ఏలీయాబుకు కోపం వచ్చింది. “అసలు నీవు ఇక్కడికి ఎందుకు వచ్చావు? ఉన్న కొన్ని గొర్రెలను అరణ్యంలో ఎవరి దగ్గర వదిలి పెట్టావు? నాకు తెలుసు నీవు ఇక్కడికి ఎందుకు వచ్చావో! చేయుమని చెప్పింది, చేయటం నీకు ఇష్టం లేదు. యుద్ధం చూడటానికే ఇక్కడికి రావాలనుకున్నావు” అంటూ ఏలీయాబు దావీదును నిలదీసాడు.

ಆದರೆ ಅವನು ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿರು ವದನ್ನು ಅವನ ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಎಲೀಯಾ ಬನು ಕೇಳಿ ಅವನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡು--ನೀನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದದ್ದೇನು? ಅಡವಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಯಾರ ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿ ಬಂದೆ? ನಿನ್ನ ಗರ್ವವನ್ನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯದ ಅಹಂಕಾರವನ್ನೂ ನಾನು ಬಲ್ಲೆನು; ನೀನು ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಇಳಿದು ಬಂದಿದ್ದೀ ಅಂದನು.

ದಾವೀದನು ಸೈನಿಕರೊಡನೆ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಅವನ ಹಿರಿಯ ಅಣ್ಣ ಎಲೀಯಾಬನು ಕೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು. ಎಲೀಯಾಬನು ದಾವೀದನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದದ್ದೇಕೆ? ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಕೆಲವು ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಯಾರ ಬಳಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿರುವೆ? ನೀನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಏಕೆ ಬಂದಿರುವೆಯೆಂಬುದು ನನಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತು. ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೀನು ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನೀನು ಕೇವಲ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿರುವೆ” ಎಂದು ಗದರಿಸಿದನು.

પરંતુ દાઉદના સૌથી મોટા ભાઈ અલીઆબે તેને લોકો સાથે વાત કરતાં સાંભળ્યો, એટલે તેને એકદમ ગુસ્સો ચડ્યો. તેણે દાઉદને કહ્યું. “તું અહીં શું કરે છે? અને તું વગડામાં તારાં મૂઠીભર ઘેટાં કોને સોંપીને આવ્યો? હું જાણું છું; તું કેવો ઘમંડી અને ઉદ્ધત છોકરો છે. તું લડાઈ જોવા જ આવ્યો છે ને?”

দাযূদের বড়দা ইলীয়াব যখন শুনলো দায়ূদ সৈন্যদের সঙ্গে কথাবার্তা বলছে, তখন সে রেগে গেল| সে দায়ূদকে বলল, “তুমি এখানে কেন? কার হাতে তুমি মরুভূমি অঞ্চলে মেষগুলোর দেখাশুনার দায়িত্ব দিয়ে এলে? কেন এখানে এসেছ সেকি আমি জানি না ভেবেছ? তোমাকে যা বলা হয়েছিল সেগুলো তুমি করতে চাও না| তুমি শুধু যুদ্ধ দেখবার জন্যই এখানে আসতে চেয়েছ|”

ଦାଉଦ ସହେି ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ କଥାବାର୍ତ୍ତା କରୁଥିବା ସମୟରେ ତା'ର ଜେଷ୍ଠଭ୍ରାତା ଇଲୀଯାବ ଶକ୍ସ୍ଟଣିଲା। ଇଲୀଯାବର କୋରଧ ଦାଉଦ ଉପରେ ପ୍ରଜ୍ବଳିତ ହେଲା, ଆଉ ସେ କହିଲା, "ତକ୍ସ୍ଟ ଏଠାକକ୍ସ୍ଟ କାହିଁକି ଆସିଲକ୍ସ୍ଟ? ପ୍ରାନ୍ତର ରେ ତକ୍ସ୍ଟ ମେଣ୍ତାମାନଙ୍କୁ କାହା ପାଖ ରେ ଛାଡିଲକ୍ସ୍ଟ? ମୁ ତୋ ଗର୍ବ ଓ ତୋ ମନର ଦକ୍ସ୍ଟଷ୍ଟତା ଜାଣେ। କାରଣ ତକ୍ସ୍ଟ କବଳେ ୟକ୍ସ୍ଟଦ୍ଧ ଦେଖିବା ପାଇଁ ଆସିଛକ୍ସ୍ଟ।"
