তিনি দেখলেন য়ে শিষ্যরা বাতাসের বিরুদ্ধে খুব কষ্টের সঙ্গে দাঁড় টেনে চলেছেন৷ খুব ভোর বেলা প্রায় তিনটে ও ছটার মধ্যে তিনি হ্রদের জলের উপর দিয়ে হেঁটে তাদের কাছে এলেন৷ তিনি তাঁদের পাশ কাটিয়ে এগিয়ে য়েতে চাইলেন৷

And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
