তখন সৈন্যরা শৌলকে বলল, “য়োনাথন আজ ইস্রায়েলের জয়ের নাযক| তাকে কি মরতেই হবে? কখনোই না| আমরা জীবন্ত ঈশ্বরের নামে দিব্য়ি করে বলছি, কেউ য়োনাথনের গায়ে হাত দেব না| তার একটি চুলও মাটিতে পড়বে না| বয়ং ঈশ্বর য়োনাথনকে পলেষ্টীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে সাহায্য করেছেন|” এই ভাবে তারা য়োনাথনকে বাঁচাল| তাকে আর মরতে হল না|

And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: [as] the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.

But the soldiers said to Saul, "Jonathan led Israel to a great victory today. Must Jonathan die? Never! We swear by the living God that not one hair of Jonathan's head will fall to the ground! God helped Jonathan fight against the Philistines today." So the people saved Jonathan. He was not put to death.
