BNV : ‘মোশির বিধি-ব্যবস্থার ব্যাখ্যা দেবার অধিকার ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষক ও ফরীশীদের আছে৷
KJV : Saying, {SCJ}The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: {SCJ.}
YLT : saying, `On the seat of Moses sat down the scribes and the Pharisees;
RV : saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses- seat:
RSV : "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat;

ERVEN : "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees have the authority to tell you what the Law of Moses says.

BNV : তাই তারা যা যা বলে, তা তোমরা করো এবং মেনে চলো: কিন্তু তারা যা করে তোমরা তা করো না৷ আমি একথা বলছি, কারণ তারা যা বলে তারা তা করে না৷
KJV : {SCJ}All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, [that] observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. {SCJ.}
YLT : all, then, as much as they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but according to their works do not, for they say, and do not;
RV : all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, {cf15i these} do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.
RSV : so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice.

ERVEN : So you should obey them. Do everything they tell you to do. But their lives are not good examples for you to follow. They tell you to do things, but they don't do those things themselves.

BNV : তারা ভারী ভারী বোঝা যা বওয়া কঠিন, তা লোকদের কাঁধে চাপিয়ে দেয়; কিন্তু সেগুলো সরাবার জন্য নিজেরা একটা আঙ্গুলও নাড়াতে চায় না৷
KJV : {SCJ}For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay [them] on men’s shoulders; but they [themselves] will not move them with one of their fingers. {SCJ.}
YLT : for they bind together burdens heavy and grievous to be borne, and lay upon the shoulders of men, but with their finger they will not move them.
RV : Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men-s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.

ERVEN : They make strict rules that are hard for people to obey. They try to force others to obey all their rules. But they themselves will not try to follow any of those rules.

BNV : ‘তারা যা কিছু করে সবই লোক দেখানোর জন্য৷ তারা শাস্ত্রের পদ লেখা তাবিজ বড় করে তৈরী করে, আর নিজেদের ধার্মিক দেখাবার জন্য পোশাকের প্রান্তে লম্বা লম্বা ঝালর লাগায়৷
KJV : {SCJ}But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, {SCJ.}
YLT : `And all their works they do to be seen by men, and they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the fringes of their garments,

ERVEN : "The only reason they do what they do is for other people to see them. They make the little Scripture boxes they wear bigger and bigger. And they make the tassels on their prayer clothes long enough for people to notice them.

BNV : তারা ভোজসভায় সম্মানের জায়গায় এবং সমাজ-গৃহে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আসনে বসতে ভালবাসে৷
KJV : {SCJ}And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, {SCJ.}
YLT : they love also the chief couches in the supper, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
RV : and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
RSV : and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues,

ERVEN : These men love to have the places of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues.

BNV : তারা হাটে-বাজারে লোকদের কাছ থেকে সম্মানসূচক অভিবাদন ও ‘গুরু’ ডাক শুনতে খুবইভালবাসে৷
KJV : {SCJ}And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. {SCJ.}
YLT : and the salutations in the market-places, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
RV : and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi.

ERVEN : They love for people to show respect to them in the marketplaces and to call them 'Teacher.'

BNV : ‘কিন্তু তোমরা দেখো, লোকে য়েন তোমাদের ‘শিক্ষক’ বলে না ডাকে, কারণ একজনই তোমাদের শিক্ষক, আর তোমরা সকলে পরস্পর ভাই বোন৷
KJV : {SCJ}But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren. {SCJ.}
YLT : `And ye -- ye may not be called Rabbi, for one is your director -- the Christ, and all ye are brethren;

BNV : এই পৃথিবীতে কাউকে ‘পিতা’ বলে ডেকো না, কারণ তোমাদের পিতা একজনই, তিনি স্বর্গে থাকেন৷
KJV : {SCJ}And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. {SCJ.}
YLT : and ye may not call [any] your father on the earth, for one is your Father, who is in the heavens,

BNV : কেউ য়েন তোমাদের ‘আচার্য্য় বলে না ডাকে, কারণ তোমাদের আচার্য়্য় একজনই, তিনি খ্রীষ্ট৷
KJV : {SCJ}Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ. {SCJ.}
YLT : nor may ye be called directors, for one is your director -- the Christ.

BNV : তোমাদের মধ্যে য়ে সব থেকে শ্রেষ্ঠ, সে তোমাদের সেবক হবে৷
KJV : {SCJ}But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. {SCJ.}
YLT : And the greater of you shall be your ministrant,
RV : But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
RSV : He who is greatest among you shall be your servant;

ESV : The greatest among you shall be your servant.
ERVEN : Whoever serves you like a servant is the greatest among you.

BNV : য়ে কেউ নিজেকে বড় করে, তাকে নত করা হবে৷ আর য়ে কেউ নিজেকে নত করে, তাকে উন্নত করা হবে৷
KJV : {SCJ}And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. {SCJ.}
YLT : and whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
RV : And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
RSV : whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

ERVEN : People who think they are better than others will be made humble. But people who humble themselves will be made great.

BNV : ‘ধিক্ ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষক ও ফরীশীর দল, তোমরা ভণ্ড! তোমরা লোকদের জন্য স্বর্গরাজ্যের দরজা বন্ধ করে রাখছ, নিজেরাও তাতে প্রবেশ করো না, আর যাঁরা প্রবেশ করতে চেষ্টা করছে তাদেরও প্রবেশ করতে দিচ্ছ না৷
KJV : {SCJ}But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in [yourselves,] neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. {SCJ.}
YLT : `Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut up the reign of the heavens before men, for ye do not go in, nor those going in do ye suffer to enter.
RV : But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye enter not in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering in to enter.
RSV : "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in.
ASV : But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye enter not in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering in to enter.
ESV : "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.
ERVEN : "It will be bad for you teachers of the law and you Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You close the way for people to enter God's kingdom. You yourselves don't enter, and you stop those who are trying to enter.

KJV : {SCJ}Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. {SCJ.}
YLT : `Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye eat up the houses of the widows, and for a pretence make long prayers, because of this ye shall receive more abundant judgment.
ASV : Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers: therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

BNV : ‘ধিক ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষক ও ফরীশীর দল, তোমরা ভণ্ড! একজন লোককে নিজেদের ধর্মমতে নিয়ে আসার জন্য তোমরা জলে স্থলে ঘুরে বেড়াও৷ আর সে যখন তোমাদের ধর্মে আসে, তখন তোমরা নিজেদের চেয়ে তাকে দ্বিগুণ নরকের উপযুক্ত করে তোল৷
KJV : {SCJ}Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. {SCJ.}
YLT : `Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye go round the sea and the dry land to make one proselyte, and whenever it may happen -- ye make him a son of gehenna twofold more than yourselves.
RV : Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.
RSV : Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.
ASV : Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.
ESV : Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.
ERVEN : "It will be bad for you teachers of the law and you Pharisees! You are hypocrites. You travel across the seas and across different countries to find one person who will follow your ways. When you find that person, you make him worse than you are. And you are so bad that you belong in hell!

BNV : ‘ধিক্ ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষক ও ফরীশীর দল, তোমর ভণ্ড! তোমরা নিজেরা অন্ধ অথচ অন্যদের পথ দেখাও৷ তোরা বলে থাক, ‘কেউ যদি মন্দিরের দিব্যি দেয়, তবে তাতে কিছু এসে যায় না৷ কিন্তু কেউ যদি মন্দিরের সোনার দিব্যি দেয়, তবে সে সেইশপথে বাঁধা পড়ল; তাকে অবশ্যইতা পূরণ করতে হবে৷’
KJV : {SCJ}Woe unto you, [ye] blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! {SCJ.}
YLT : `Wo to you, blind guides, who are saying, Whoever may swear by the sanctuary, it is nothing, but whoever may swear by the gold of the sanctuary -- is debtor!
RV : Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.

ERVEN : "It will be bad for you teachers of the law and you Pharisees! You guide the people, but you are blind. You say, 'If anyone uses the name of the Temple to make a promise, that means nothing. But anyone who uses the gold that is in the Temple to make a promise must keep that promise.'

BNV : মূর্খ অন্ধের দল! কোনটা শ্রেষ্ঠ, মন্দিরের সোনা অথবা মন্দির, যা সেই সোনাকে পবিত্র করে?
KJV : {SCJ}[Ye] fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? {SCJ.}
YLT : Fools and blind! for which [is] greater, the gold, or the sanctuary that is sanctifying the gold?
RV : Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold?
RSV : You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred?

ERVEN : You are blind fools! Can't you see that the Temple is greater than the gold on it? It's the Temple that makes the gold holy!

BNV : তোমরা আবার একথাও বলে থাক, ‘কেউ যদি যজ্ঞবেদীর নামে শপথ করে, তাহলে সেইশপথ রক্ষা করার জন্য তার কোন বাধ্যবাধকতা নেই ৷ কিন্তু কেউ যদি যজ্ঞবেদীর ওপর য়ে নৈবেদ্য থাকে তার নামে শপথ করে, তবে তার শপথ রক্ষা করার জন্য সে দায়বদ্ধ রইল৷’
KJV : {SCJ}And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. {SCJ.}
YLT : `And, whoever may swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever may swear by the gift that is upon it -- is debtor!

BNV : তোমরা অন্ধের দল! কোনটা বেশী গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, যজ্ঞবেদীতে নৈবেদ্য অথবা বেদী, যা তার ওপরের নৈবেদ্যকে পবিত্র করে?
KJV : {SCJ}[Ye] fools and blind: for whether [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? {SCJ.}
YLT : Fools and blind! for which [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that is sanctifying the gift?
RV : Ye blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
RSV : You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?

ERVEN : You are blind! Can't you see that the altar is greater than any gift on it? It's the altar that makes the gift holy!

BNV : তাই যখন কেউ যজ্ঞবেদীর নামে শপথ করে, তখন সে যজ্ঞবেদীর ওপর যা কিছু থাকে সে সব কিছুরইবিষয়ে শপথ করে৷
KJV : {SCJ}Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. {SCJ.}
YLT : `He therefore who did swear by the altar, doth swear by it, and by all things on it;
RV : He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
RSV : So he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it;
ASV : He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
ESV : So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
ERVEN : Whoever uses the altar to make a promise is really using the altar and everything on the altar.

BNV : আর কেউ যখন মন্দিরের নামে শপথ করে, তখন সে জায়গা ও তার মধ্যে যিনি থাকেন, তাঁর নামেও শপথ করে৷
KJV : {SCJ}And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. {SCJ.}
YLT : and he who did swear by the sanctuary, doth swear by it, and by Him who is dwelling in it;
RV : And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
RSV : and he who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it;
ASV : And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
ESV : And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it.
ERVEN : And anyone who uses the Temple to make a promise is really using the Temple and God, who lives in it.

BNV : আর যদি কোন লোক স্বর্গের নামে শপথ করে, তখন সে ঈশ্বরের সিংহাসন ও যিনি সেই সিংহাসনে বসে আছেন তাঁর নামেও শপথ করে৷
KJV : {SCJ}And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. {SCJ.}
YLT : and he who did swear by the heaven, doth swear by the throne of God, and by Him who is sitting upon it.
RV : And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
RSV : and he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
ASV : And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
ESV : And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
ERVEN : Whoever uses heaven to make a promise is using God's throne and the one who is seated on it.

BNV : ‘ধিক্ ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষক ও ফরীশীর দল, তোমরা ভণ্ড! তোমরা পুদিনা, মৌরী ও জিরার দশভাগের একভাগ ঈশ্বরকে দিয়ে থাক অথচ ন্যায়, দযা ও বিশ্বস্ততা, ব্যবস্থার এই বিশেষ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ শিক্ষা অবহেলা করে থাক৷ আগের ঐ বিষয়গুলি পালন করার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে পরের এই বিষয়গুলি পালন করাও তোমাদের উচিত৷
KJV : {SCJ}Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. {SCJ.}
YLT : `Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye give tithe of the mint, and the dill, and the cumin, and did neglect the weightier things of the Law -- the judgment, and the kindness, and the faith; these it behoved [you] to do, and those not to neglect.
RV : Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, judgment, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.
RSV : "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
ASV : Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.
ESV : "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
ERVEN : "It will be bad for you teachers of the law and you Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You give God a tenth of everything you own—even your mint, dill, and cumin. But you don't obey the really important teachings of the law—being fair, showing mercy, and being faithful. These are the things you should do. And you should also continue to do those other things.

BNV : তোমরা অন্ধ পথপ্রদর্শক, তোমরা মশা ছেঁকে ফেল, কিন্তু উট গিলে থাক৷
KJV : {SCJ}[Ye] blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. {SCJ.}
YLT : `Blind guides! who are straining out the gnat, and the camel are swallowing.
RV : Ye blind guides, which strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel.
RSV : You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

ERVEN : You guide the people, but you are blind! Think about a man picking a little fly out of his drink and then swallowing a camel! You are like that.
