KJV : Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
YLT : We may fear, then, lest a promise being left of entering into His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short,
RV : Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
RSV : Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any of you be judged to have failed to reach it.
ASV : Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
ESV : Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it.
ERVEN : And we still have the promise that God gave those people. That promise is that we can enter his place of rest. So we should be very careful that none of you fails to get that promise.

KJV : For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it. ]
YLT : for we also are having good news proclaimed, even as they, but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard,
RV : For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because they were not united by faith with them that heard.
RSV : For good news came to us just as to them; but the message which they heard did not benefit them, because it did not meet with faith in the hearers.
ASV : For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard.
ESV : For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.
ERVEN : Yes, the good news about it was told to us just as it was to them. But the message they heard did not help them. They heard it but did not accept it with faith.
3
KJV : For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
YLT : for we do enter into the rest -- we who did believe, as He said, `So I sware in My anger, If they shall enter into My rest -- ;` and yet the works were done from the foundation of the world,
RV : For we which have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
RSV : For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, `They shall never enter my rest,'" although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
ASV : For we who have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
ESV : For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest,'" although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
ERVEN : Only we who believe it are able to enter God's place of rest. As God said, "I was angry and made a promise: 'They will never enter my place of rest.'" But God's work was finished from the time he made the world.

KJV : For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
YLT : for He spake in a certain place concerning the seventh [day] thus: `And God did rest in the seventh day from all His works;`
RV : For he hath said somewhere of the seventh {cf15i day} on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;
RSV : For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."
ASV : For he hath said somewhere of the seventh day on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;
ESV : For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."
ERVEN : Yes, somewhere in the Scriptures he talked about the seventh day of the week. He said, "So on the seventh day God rested from all his work."
5
KJV : And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into my rest.
YLT : and in this [place] again, `If they shall enter into My rest -- ;`
RV : and in this {cf15i place} again, They shall not enter into my rest.
RSV : And again in this place he said, "They shall never enter my rest."
ASV : and in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest.
ESV : And again in this passage he said, "They shall not enter my rest."
ERVEN : But in the Scripture above God said, "They will never enter my place of rest."
6
KJV : Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
YLT : since then, it remaineth for certain to enter into it, and those who did first hear good news entered not in because of unbelief --
RV : Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,
RSV : Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,
ASV : Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,
ESV : Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,
ERVEN : So the opportunity is still there for some to enter and enjoy God's rest. But those who first heard the good news about it did not enter, because they did not obey.
7
KJV : Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
YLT : again He doth limit a certain day, `To-day,` (in David saying, after so long a time,) as it hath been said, `To-day, if His voice ye may hear, ye may not harden your hearts,`
RV : he again defineth a certain day, saying in David, after so long a time, Today, as it hath been before said, Today if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.
RSV : again he sets a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
ASV : he again defineth a certain day, To-day, saying in David so long a time afterward (even as hath been said before), To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.
ESV : again he appoints a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
ERVEN : So God planned another special day. It is called "today." He spoke about that day through David a long time later using the words we quoted before: "If you hear God's voice today, don't be stubborn as you were in the past."
8
KJV : For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
YLT : for if Joshua had given them rest, He would not concerning another day have spoken after these things;
RV : For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
RSV : For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day.
ASV : For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
ESV : For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.
ERVEN : We know that Joshua did not lead the people into the place of rest that God promised. We know this because God spoke later about another day for rest.
9
KJV : There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
YLT : there doth remain, then, a sabbatic rest to the people of God,
RV : There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.
RSV : So then, there remains a sabbath rest for the people of God;
ASV : There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.
ESV : So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,
ERVEN : This shows that the seventh-day rest for God's people is still to come.
10
KJV : For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God [did] from his.
YLT : for he who did enter into his rest, he also rested from his works, as God from His own.
RV : For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
RSV : for whoever enters God's rest also ceases from his labors as God did from his.
ASV : For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
ESV : for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
ERVEN : God rested after he finished his work. So everyone who enters God's place of rest will also have rest from their own work like God did.
11
KJV : Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
YLT : May we be diligent, then, to enter into that rest, that no one in the same example of the unbelief may fall,
RV : Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.
RSV : Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience.
ASV : Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.
ESV : Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.
ERVEN : So let us try as hard as we can to enter God's place of rest. We must try hard so that none of us will be lost by following the example of those who refused to obey God.
12
KJV : For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
YLT : for the reckoning of God is living, and working, and sharp above every two-edged sword, and piercing unto the dividing asunder both of soul and spirit, of joints also and marrow, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart;
RV : For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
RSV : For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
ASV : For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
ESV : For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
ERVEN : God's word is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God's word cuts to the center of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.
13
KJV : Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
YLT : and there is not a created thing not manifest before Him, but all things [are] naked and open to His eyes -- with whom is our reckoning.
RV : And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
RSV : And before him no creature is hidden, but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
ASV : And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
ESV : And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14
KJV : Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] profession.
YLT : Having, then, a great chief priest passed through the heavens -- Jesus the Son of God -- may we hold fast the profession,
RV : Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
RSV : Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
ASV : Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
ESV : Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
ERVEN : We have a great high priest who has gone to live with God in heaven. He is Jesus the Son of God. So let us continue to express our faith in him.
15
KJV : For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.
YLT : for we have not a chief priest unable to sympathise with our infirmities, but [one] tempted in all things in like manner -- apart from sin;
RV : For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as {cf15i we are, yet} without sin.
RSV : For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
ASV : For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
ESV : For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
ERVEN : Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned.
16

YLT : we may come near, then, with freedom, to the throne of the grace, that we may receive kindness, and find grace -- for seasonable help.
RV : Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help {cf15i us} in time of need.
