এবদের পুত্র গাল বলল, “আমরা সবাই শিখিমের লোক| আমরা কেন অবীমেলককে মানব? নিজেকে সে কি মনে করে? অবীমেলক যিরুব্বালের পুত্রদের মধ্যে একজন? আর সে সবূলকে করেছে তার মন্ত্রী, ঠিক কিনা? আমরা অবীমেলককে মানছি না, মানব না| আমরা আমাদের নিজেদের লোককেই মানবো| আমরা শিখিমের পিতা হমোরের লোকদের মানব| কারণ তারা আমাদের নিজের লোক|

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who [is] Abimelech, and who [is] Shechem, that we should serve him? [is] not [he] the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

Then Gaal son of Ebed said, "We are the men of Shechem. Why should we obey Abimelech? Who does he think he is? Abimelech is one of Jerub Baal's sons, right? And Abimelech made Zebul his officer, right? We should not obey Abimelech. We should follow our own people, men from Hamor. (Hamor was the father of Shechem.)
