அரசனான நேபுகாத்நேச்சார் ஆரோக்கியமான இளம் யூதர்களை மட்டுமே விரும்பினான். தம் உடம்பில் தழும்போ, காயமோ, குறைபாடுகளோ இல்லாத இளைஞர்களை அரசன் விரும்பினான். அரசன் அழகான சுறுசுறுப்பான இளைஞர்களை விரும்பினான். இளைஞர்களில் எல்லாவற்றையும் எளிதாகவும், வேகமாகவும், கற்றுக்கொள்ளும் ஆற்றலுடையவர்களை அரசன் விரும்பினான். அரசன், தன் வீட்டில் வேலை செய்யத் தகுதியுள்ள இளைஞர்களை விரும்பினான். அரசன் அஸ்பேனாசிடம், அந்த இஸ்ரவேல் இளைஞர்களுக்குக் கல்தேயரின் எழுத்தையும், மொழியையும் கற்றுக்கொடுக்கும்படி கூறினான்.

राजाला,सुदृढ, तरुण, ज्यांच्या अंगावर जखमेची खूण वा व्रण नाही, ज्यांच्या शरीरांत काहीही दोष नाही असे यहूदी तरुण हवे होते. ते देखणे व चाणाक्ष असावेत अशी राजाची अपेक्षा होती. त्यांनी सहजतेने पण लवकर सर्व गोष्टी शिकून राजाची सेवा करावी, अशी राजाची इच्छा होती. अश्पनजला, इस्राएलच्या त्या तरुणांना, खास्दी भाषा व लेखन शिकविण्यास सांगितले होते.
