యోవాబు, అతని మనుష్యులు ఆబేలు బేత్మయకా వద్దకు వచ్చారు. యోవాబు సైన్యం నగరాన్ని ముట్టడించింది. నగరం చుట్టూవున్న గోడకు వారు ఒక చోట కందకం పూడ్చి బాగా మట్టి పోశారు. అలా మట్టి పోయటంతో వారు గోడ దగ్గరకు వెళ్ల గలిగారు. ఆ గోడను పడగొట్టే ఉద్దేశంతో వారప్పుడు దానిని పగులగొట్టటం మొదలుపెట్టారు.

ಯೋವಾಬನು ತನ್ನ ಜನರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಬೇಲ್ಬೇತ್ಮಾಕಾ ಊರಿಗೆ ಬಂದನು. ಯೋವಾಬನ ಸೈನ್ಯವು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತುಗಟ್ಟಿತು. ಅವರು ನಗರದ ಗೋಡೆಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ದಿಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನು ಸಮೀಪಿಸಿದರು; ನಂತರ ಆ ಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನು ಬೀಳಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆಯಲಾಂಭಿಸಿದರು.
