ನಂತರ ಎಲೀಯನು ಮರಳುಗಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನವೆಲ್ಲ ನಡೆದನು. ಎಲೀಯನು ಒಂದು ಪೊದೆಯ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡನು. ಅವನು ಸಾಯಲು ಇಚ್ಛಿಸಿ, “ಯೆಹೋವನೇ, ನನಗೆ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಕಾಗಿದೆ! ಸಾಯಲು ನನಗೆ ಅವಕಾಶ ಮಾಡು. ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಪೂರ್ವಿಕರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಉತ್ತಮನೇನಲ್ಲ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
