তারপর ইস্রায়েলীয় লোকরা বলল, “ইস্রায়েলীয়দের মধ্যে এমন কোন পরিবার কি আছে যারা প্রভুর সামনে আমাদের এই প্রার্থনায আসে নি?” এরকম জিজ্ঞাসার কারণ হচ্ছে তারা বেশ সাংঘাতিক ধরণের একটা প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিল| তাদের প্রতিজ্ঞা ছিল অন্যান্য পরিবারগোষ্ঠীর সঙ্গে যদি কেউ মিস্পা শহরে য়োগ না দেয তবে তাকে হত্যা করা হবে|

And the children of Israel said, Who [is there] among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.
