ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਉ ਦਾਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆਇਆ ਸੀ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਓਪਰਿਆਂ ਦਿਓਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਿਆਂ ਦਿਓਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਸਨ, ਪੂਜਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਉਕਸਾਇਆ

And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that [were] round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

The Lord had brought the Israelites out of Egypt, and their ancestors had worshiped the Lord. But the Israelites stopped following the Lord. They began to worship the false gods of the people living around them. That made the Lord angry.
