ଯେତବେେଳେ ଯିହାଶୂେୟ ଯିରୀହାେ ନିକଟରେ ଛିଡା ହାଇେଥିଲେ, ତାଙ୍କ ସମ୍ମକ୍ସ୍ଟଖ ରେ ଏକ ଲୋକ ଛିଡା ହାଇେଥିଲା। ସେ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ଯ କଲେ ଲୋକଟି ତା'ହାତ ରେ ଏକ ଖଣ୍ତା ଟାଣି ବାହାର କଲା। ଯିହାଶୂେୟ ତା'ର ନିକଟକକ୍ସ୍ଟ ଗଲେ ଓ ପଚାରିଲେ, "ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଆମ୍ଭର ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କର ବନ୍ଧକ୍ସ୍ଟ ନା ଶତୃ?"

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, [Art] thou for us, or for our adversaries?
