BNV : আমার ভাই ও বোনেরা, তোমাদের মধ্যে বেশী লোকের শিক্ষক হওয়ার জন্য চেষ্টা করার দরকার নেই, কারণ তোমরা জান য়ে আমরা শিক্ষক বলে অন্যদের থেকে আমাদের বিচার কঠোর হবে৷
KJV : My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
YLT : Many teachers become not, my brethren, having known that greater judgment we shall receive,
RV : Be not many teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment.
RSV : Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness.
ASV : Be not many of you teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment.
ESV : Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
ERVEN : My brothers and sisters, not many of you should be teachers. I say this because, as you know, we who teach will be judged more strictly than others.

BNV : কারণ আমরা সকলেই নানাভাবে অন্যায় করে থাকি৷ যদি কেউ তার কথাবার্তায় অসংযত না হয়, তবে সে একজন খাঁটি লোক, সে সব বিষয়ে নিজের দেহকে সংযত রাখতে পারে৷
KJV : For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, [and] able also to bridle the whole body.
YLT : for we all make many stumbles; if any one in word doth not stumble, this one [is] a perfect man, able to bridle also the whole body;
RV : For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.
RSV : For we all make many mistakes, and if any one makes no mistakes in what he says he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

ERVEN : We all make many mistakes. A person who never said anything wrong would be perfect. Someone like that would be able to control their whole body too.

BNV : ঘোড়াদের বশে রাখার জন্য, আমরা তাদের মুখে বলগা দিই এবং তার ফলে তাদের সমস্ত দেহকে আমরা আমাদের পছন্দমত য়ে কোনও দিকে পরিচালিত করতে পারি৷
KJV : Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
YLT : lo, the bits we put into the mouths of the horses for their obeying us, and their whole body we turn about;
RV : Now if we put the horses- bridles into their mouths, that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also.
RSV : If we put bits into the mouths of horses that they may obey us, we guide their whole bodies.
ASV : Now if we put the horses bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also.

ERVEN : We put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us. With these bits we can control their whole body.

BNV : আবার জাহাজের কথা ভাব, তারা কত প্রকাণ্ড, প্রচণ্ড বাতাসের মধ্যে দিয়ে চলে, অথচ ছোট্ট একটা হালের সাহায্যে নাবিক সেটাকে য়েদিকে ইচ্ছা সেদিকে নিয়ে যায়৷
KJV : Behold also the ships, which though [they be] so great, and [are] driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
YLT : lo, also the ships, being so great, and by fierce winds being driven, are led about by a very small helm, whithersoever the impulse of the helmsman doth counsel,
RV : Behold, the ships also, though they are so great, and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth.

ERVEN : It is the same with ships. A ship is very big, and it is pushed by strong winds. But a very small rudder controls that big ship. And the one who controls the rudder decides where the ship will go. It goes where he wants it to go.

BNV : তেমনি জিভও দেহের একটা ছোট অঙ্গ, তবু তা বড় বড় কথা বলে৷দেখ আগুনের একটা ছোট ফুলকি কেমন করে এক বিরাট বনকে পুড়িয়ে ছারখার করে দেয়৷
KJV : Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
YLT : so also the tongue is a little member, and doth boast greatly; lo, a little fire how much wood it doth kindle!
RV : So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire!

ERVEN : It is the same with our tongue. It is a small part of the body, but it can boast about doing great things. A big forest fire can be started with only a little flame.

BNV : জিভও তেমনি আগুনের ফুলকির মতো৷ আমাদের দেহের অঙ্গগুলির মধ্যে জিভ হল অধর্মের এক জগত, কারণ জিভ থেকেই নানা মন্দ আমাদের সমস্ত দেহে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে৷ নরকের আগুনে জিভ জ্বলে উঠে গোটা জীবনকে প্রভাবিত করে৷
KJV : And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
YLT : and the tongue [is] a fire, the world of the unrighteousness, so the tongue is set in our members, which is spotting our whole body, and is setting on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by the gehenna.

ERVEN : The tongue is like a fire. It is a world of evil among the parts of our body. It spreads its evil through our whole body and starts a fire that influences all of life. It gets this fire from hell.

BNV : মানুষ সব রকমের পশু-পাখী, সরীসৃপ ও সমুদ্রের প্রাণীকে দমন করে রাখতে পারে আর তাদের বশে রাখতে পারে;
KJV : For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
YLT : For every nature, both of beasts and of fowls, both of creeping things and things of the sea, is subdued, and hath been subdued, by the human nature,

ERVEN : Humans have control over every kind of wild animal, bird, reptile, and fish, and they have controlled all these things.

BNV : কিন্তু কোন মানুষ জিভকে বশে রাখতে পারে না, এই জিভ সব সময়ই অস্থির, মন্দ ও মারাত্মক বিষে ভরা৷
KJV : But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
YLT : and the tongue no one of men is able to subdue, [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison,

BNV : এই জিভ দিয়েই আমরা কখনও আমাদের প্রভু ও পিতার প্রশংসা করি, আবার কখনও বা ঈশ্বরের সাদৃশ্যে সৃষ্ট মানুষকে অভিশাপ দিই৷
KJV : Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
YLT : with it we do bless the God and Father, and with it we do curse the men made according to the similitude of God;
RV : Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the likeness of God:
RSV : With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God.

ERVEN : We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people who were created in God's likeness.

BNV : একই মুখ থেকে প্রশংসা ও অভিশাপ নির্গত হয়৷ ভাই ও বোনেরা, এমন হওযা উচিত নয়৷
KJV : Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
YLT : out of the same mouth doth come forth blessing and cursing; it doth not need, my brethren, these things so to happen;
RV : out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

BNV : একই উত্‌স থেকে কি কখনও মিষ্টি ও তেতো দুরকম জল নিঃসৃত হয়?
KJV : Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter?
YLT : doth the fountain out of the same opening pour forth the sweet and the bitter?
RV : Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet {cf15i water} and bitter?
RSV : Does a spring pour forth from the same opening fresh water and brackish?
ASV : Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter?
ESV : Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
ERVEN : Do good water and bad water flow from the same spring? Of course not.

BNV : আমার ভাই ও বোনেরা, দ্রাক্ষা লতায় কি ডুমুর ফল ধরে? তেমনি নোনা জলের উত্‌স থেকে কি মিষ্টি জল পাওয়া যায়?
KJV : Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so [can] no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
YLT : is a fig-tree able, my brethren, olives to make? or a vine figs? so no fountain salt and sweet water [is able] to make.
RV : Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? neither {cf15i can} salt water yield sweet.
RSV : Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a grapevine figs? No more can salt water yield fresh.
ASV : Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? Neither can salt water yield sweet.
ESV : Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
ERVEN : My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree make olives? Or can a grapevine make figs? No, and a well full of salty water cannot give good water.

BNV : তোমাদের মধ্যে জ্ঞানী ও বুদ্ধিমান কে? সে সত্ জীবনযাপন করে ও নম্রতার সাথে ভাল কাজ করে গর্বহীনভাবে তার বিজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করুক৷
KJV : Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
YLT : Who [is] wise and intelligent among you? let him shew out of the good behaviour his works in meekness of wisdom,
RV : Who is wise and understanding among you? let him shew by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom.
RSV : Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good life let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.
ASV : Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom.
ESV : Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.
ERVEN : Are there any among you who are really wise and understanding? Then you should show your wisdom by living right. You should do what is good with humility. A wise person does not boast.

BNV : তোমাদের মনে যদি তিক্ততা, ঈর্ষা ও স্বার্থপরতা থাকে তাহলে তোমাদের জ্ঞানের বড়াই করো না; করলে তোমাদের গর্ব হবে আর এক মিথ্যা, যা সত্যকে ঢেকে রাখে৷
KJV : But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
YLT : and if bitter zeal ye have, and rivalry in your heart, glory not, nor lie against the truth;
RV : But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth.
RSV : But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.

ERVEN : If you are selfish and have bitter jealousy in your hearts, you have no reason to boast. Your boasting is a lie that hides the truth.

BNV : এই ধরণের ‘জ্ঞান’ যা ঈশ্বর থেকে লাভ হয় না তা পার্থিব, আত্মিক নয়, তা দিয়াবলের কাছ থেকে আসে৷
KJV : This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish.
YLT : this wisdom is not descending from above, but earthly, physical, demon-like,
RV : This wisdom is not {cf15i a wisdom} that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
RSV : This wisdom is not such as comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish.

ERVEN : That kind of "wisdom" does not come from God. That "wisdom" comes from the world. It is not spiritual. It is from the devil.

BNV : য়েখানে ঈর্ষা ও স্বার্থপরতা রয়েছে সেখানেই বিশৃঙ্খলা ও সব রকমের নোংরামি থাকে৷
KJV : For where envying and strife [is,] there [is] confusion and every evil work.
YLT : for where zeal and rivalry [are], there is insurrection and every evil matter;
RV : For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed.
RSV : For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

BNV : কিন্তু য়ে জ্ঞান ঈশ্বর থেকে আসে তা প্রথমতঃ শুচিশুদ্ধ পরে শান্তিপ্রিয়, সুবিবেচক, বাধ্যতা, দয়া ও সত্ কাজে পূর্ণ, পক্ষপাত শূন্য ও আন্তরিক৷
KJV : But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
YLT : and the wisdom from above, first, indeed, is pure, then peaceable, gentle, easily entreated, full of kindness and good fruits, uncontentious, and unhypocritical: --
RV : But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy.

ERVEN : But the wisdom that comes from God is like this: First, it is pure. It is also peaceful, gentle, and easy to please. This wisdom is always ready to help people who have trouble and to do good for others. This wisdom is always fair and honest.

BNV : যাঁরা শান্তির জন্য শান্তির পথে কাজ করে চলে, তারা উত্তম জিনিস লাভ করে যা যথার্থ জীবনযাপনের মধ্য দিয়ে আসে৷
KJV : And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
YLT : and the fruit of the righteousness in peace is sown to those making peace.
RV : And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.
RSV : And the harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

ERVEN : People who work for peace in a peaceful way get the blessings that come from right living.
