BNV : যাকোব কনান দেশেই বাস করতে লাগল| এই সেই দেশ যেখানে পূর্বে তার পিতা বাস করতেন|
KJV : And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.
YLT : And Jacob dwelleth in the land of his father`s sojournings -- in the land of Canaan.
RV : And Jacob dwelt in the land of his father-s sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
RSV : Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.

BNV : যাকোবের পরিবারের বৃত্তান্ত এইরকম|য়োষেফ তখন
KJV : These [are] the generations of Jacob. Joseph, [being] seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad [was] with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.
YLT : These [are] births of Jacob: Joseph, a son of seventeen years, hath been enjoying himself with his brethren among the flock, (and he [is] a youth,) with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father`s wives, and Joseph bringeth in an account of their evil unto their father.

ESV : These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father.
ERVEN : This is the story of Jacob's family. Joseph was a young man, 17 years old. His job was to take care of the sheep and the goats. Joseph did this work with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah. (Bilhah and Zilpah were his father's wives.) Joseph told his father about the bad things that his brothers did.

BNV : য়োষেফ ছিলেন ইস্রায়েলের বৃদ্ধাবস্থার সন্তান| এই জন্য ইস্রায়েল তার অন্যান্য পুত্রদের চেযে য়োষেফকেই বেশী ভালবাসতেন| যাকোব তাকে একটা বিশেষ জামা উপহার দিয়েছিল| জামাটি ছিল লম্বা এবং বেশ সুন্দর|
KJV : Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he [was] the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of [many] colours.
YLT : And Israel hath loved Joseph more than any of his sons, for he [is] a son of his old age, and hath made for him a long coat;

ERVEN : Joseph was born at a time when his father Israel was very old, so Israel loved him more than he loved his other sons. Jacob gave him a special coat, which was long and very beautiful.

BNV : য়োষেফের ভাইয়েরা দেখল য়ে তাদের পিতা তাদের চাইতে য়োষেফকেই বেশী ভালবাসেন| এইজন্য তারা তাকে ঘৃণা করতে লাগল| তারা য়োষেফের সাতে বন্ধুভাবে কথা বলতেও চাইল না|
KJV : And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
YLT : and his brethren see that their father hath loved him more than any of his brethren, and they hate him, and have not been able to speak [to] him peaceably.
RV : And his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren; and they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

ERVEN : When Joseph's brothers saw that their father loved Joseph more than he loved them, they hated their brother because of this. They refused to say nice things to him.

BNV : একদিন য়োষেফ একটা স্বপ্ন দেখলেন| পরে তিনি তার ভাইদের সেই স্বপ্নটা বললেন| এরপর তার ভাইয়েরা তাকে আরও ঘৃণা করতে থাকল|
KJV : And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told [it] his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
YLT : And Joseph dreameth a dream, and declareth to his brethren, and they add still more to hate him.
RV : And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
RSV : Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they only hated him the more.

BNV : য়োষেফ বললেন, “আমি একটা স্বপ্ন দেখেছি|
KJV : And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

ERVEN : Joseph said, "I had a dream.

BNV : দেখলাম আমরা সকলে ক্ষেতে কাজ করছি| আমরা সকলে গমের আঁটি বাঁধছিলাম, এমন সময় আমার আঁটিটা উঠে দাঁড়াল| আর আমার আঁটির চারপাশে গোল করে ঘিরে থাকা তোমাদের আঁটিগুলো একে একে আমারটিকে প্রণাম জানাল|”
KJV : For, behold, we [were] binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.
YLT : that, lo, we are binding bundles in the midst of the field, and lo, my bundle hath arisen, and hath also stood up, and lo, your bundles are round about, and bow themselves to my bundle.`

ERVEN : We were all working in the field, tying stacks of wheat together. Then my stack got up. It stood there while all of your stacks of wheat made a circle around mine and bowed down to it."

BNV : তার ভাইয়েরা বলল, “তুমি কি মনে কর এর অর্থ তুমি আমাদের রাজা হয়ে আমাদের উপর রাজত্ব করবে?” তার ভাইয়েরা তাদের সম্বন্ধে দেখা এই স্বপ্নের জন্য তাকে আরও ঘৃণা করতে লাগল|
KJV : And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
YLT : And his brethren say to him, `Dost thou certainly reign over us? dost thou certainly rule over us?` and they add still more to hate him, for his dreams, and for his words.

ERVEN : His brothers said, "Do you think this means that you will be a king and rule over us?" His brothers hated Joseph more now because of the dreams he had about them.

BNV : এরপর য়োষেফ আরেকটি স্বপ্ন দেখে সেই স্বপ্ন সম্বন্ধে তার ভাইয়েদের বললেন, “আমি আরেকটি স্বপ্ন দেখেছি| দেখলাম সূর্য়, চাঁদ এবং এগারোটি তারা আমাকে প্রণাম করছে|”
KJV : And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
YLT : And he dreameth yet another dream, and recounteth it to his brethren, and saith, `Lo, I have dreamed a dream again, and lo, the sun and the moon, and eleven stars, are bowing themselves to me.`
RV : And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed yet a dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.

ERVEN : Then Joseph had another dream, and he told his brothers about it. He said, "I had another dream. I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me."

BNV : য়োষেফ তাঁর পিতাকেও এই স্বপ্নটি সম্বন্ধে বললেন| কিন্তু তাঁর পিতা এর সমালোচনা করে বললেন, “এ কি ধরণের স্বপ্ন? তুমি কি বিশ্বাস কর য়ে তোমার মা, তোমার ভাইয়েরা, এমনকি আমিও তোমায় প্রণাম করব?”
KJV : And he told [it] to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What [is] this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
YLT : And he recounteth unto his father, and unto his brethren; and his father pusheth against him, and saith to him, `What [is] this dream which thou hast dreamt? do we certainly come -- I, and thy mother, and thy brethren -- to bow ourselves to thee, to the earth?`
RV : And he told it to his father, and to his brethren; and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
RSV : But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him, and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?"
ASV : And he told it to his father, and to his brethren; and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
ESV : But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?"
ERVEN : Joseph also told his father about this dream, but his father criticized him. His father said, "What kind of dream is this? Do you believe that your mother, your brothers, and I will bow down to you?"

BNV : য়োষেফের ভাইয়েরা তাঁকে ঈর্ষা করত| কিন্তু য়োষেফের পিতা সেসব মনে রাখলেন আর ভেবে অবাক হলেন যে এর অর্থ কি হতে পারে|
KJV : And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.
YLT : and his brethren are zealous against him, and his father hath watched the matter.
RV : And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the saying in mind.
RSV : And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.
ASV : And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the saying in mind.

ERVEN : Joseph's brothers continued to be jealous of him, but his father thought about all these things and wondered what they could mean.

BNV : একদিন য়োষেফের ভাইয়েরা শিখিমে গেল তাদের পিতার মেষ চরাতে|
KJV : And his brethren went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.
YLT : And his brethren go to feed the flock of their father in Shechem,
RV : And his brethren went to feed their father-s flock in Shechem.
RSV : Now his brothers went to pasture their father's flock near Shechem.
ASV : And his brethren went to feed their fathers flock in Shechem.

ERVEN : One day Joseph's brothers went to Shechem to care for their father's sheep.

BNV : যাকোব য়োষেফকে বলল, “শিখিমে যাও| সেখানে তোমার ভাইয়েরা আমার মেষ চরাচ্ছে|”য়োষেফ উত্তর করলেন, “আমি যাবো|”
KJV : And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed [the flock] in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here [am] I.
YLT : and Israel saith unto Joseph, `Are not thy brethren feeding in Shechem? come, and I send thee unto them;` and he saith to him, `Here [am] I;`
RV : And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
RSV : And Israel said to Joseph, "Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them." And he said to him, "Here I am."
ASV : And Israel said unto Joseph, Are not thy brethren feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
ESV : And Israel said to Joseph, "Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them." And he said to him, "Here I am."
ERVEN : Jacob said to Joseph, "Go to Shechem. Your brothers are there with my sheep." Joseph answered, "I will go."

BNV : য়োষেফের পিতা বললেন, “যাও গিয়ে দেখ তোমার ভাইয়েরা নিরাপদে আছে কিনা| তারপর ফিরে এসে আমাদের জানিও মেষদের অবস্থা কেমন|” এইভাবে য়োষেফের পিতা তাকে হিব্রোণ উপত্যকা থেকে শিখিমে পাঠালেন|
KJV : And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
YLT : and he saith to him, `Go, I pray thee, see the peace of thy brethren, and the peace of the flock, and bring me back word;` and he sendeth him from the valley of Hebron, and he cometh to Shechem.
RV : And he said to him, Go now, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flock; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
RSV : So he said to him, "Go now, see if it is well with your brothers, and with the flock; and bring me word again." So he sent him from the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
ASV : And he said to him, Go now, see whether it is well with thy brethren, and well with the flock; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

ERVEN : His father said, "Go and see if your brothers are safe. Come back and tell me if my sheep are all fine." So Joseph's father sent him from the Valley of Hebron to Shechem.

BNV : শিখিমে য়োষেফ পথ হারালে একজন লোক তাঁকে মাঠে ঘুরে বেড়াতে দেখল| সেই লোকটি বলল, “তুমি কি খুঁজে বেড়াচ্ছ?”
KJV : And a certain man found him, and, behold, [he was] wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
YLT : And a man findeth him, and lo, he is wandering in the field, and the man asketh him, saying, `What seekest thou?`
RV : And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
RSV : And a man found him wandering in the fields; and the man asked him, "What are you seeking?"
ASV : And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

ERVEN : At Shechem, Joseph got lost. A man found him wandering in the fields. The man said, "What are you looking for?"

BNV : য়োষেফ উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি আমার ভাইদের খোঁজ করছি| বলতে পারেন তারা তাদের মেষ নিয়ে কোথায় গেছে?”
KJV : And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed [their flocks. ]
YLT : and he saith, `My brethren I am seeking, declare to me, I pray thee, where they are feeding?`
RV : And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding {cf15i the flock}.
RSV : "I am seeking my brothers," he said, "tell me, I pray you, where they are pasturing the flock."
ASV : And he said, I am seeking my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding the flock.
ESV : "I am seeking my brothers," he said. "Tell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock."
ERVEN : Joseph answered, "I am looking for my brothers. Can you tell me where they are with their sheep?"

BNV : সেই লোকটি বলল, “তারা তো চলে গেছে| আমি তাদের দোথনে যাবার কথা বলতে শুনেছিলাম|” তাই য়োষেফ তার ভাইদের খুঁজতে গেলেন এবং দোথনে তাদের খুঁজে পেলেন|
KJV : And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
YLT : And the man saith, `They have journeyed from this, for I have heard some saying, Let us go to Dothan,` and Joseph goeth after his brethren, and findeth them in Dothan.
RV : And the man said, They are departed hence: for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
RSV : And the man said, "They have gone away, for I heard them say, `Let us go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers, and found them at Dothan.

ERVEN : The man said, "They have already gone away. I heard them say that they were going to Dothan." So Joseph followed his brothers and found them in Dothan.

BNV : য়োষেফের ভাইয়েরা তাকে দূর থেকে আসতে দেখে তাকে হত্যা করার পরিকল্পনা করল|
KJV : And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
YLT : And they see him from afar, even before he draweth near unto them, and they conspire against him to put him to death.
RV : And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
RSV : They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.

ERVEN : Joseph's brothers saw him coming from far away. They decided to make a plan to kill him.

BNV : ভাইয়েরা নিজেদের মধ্যে বলাবলি করল, “ঐ দেখ স্বপ্নদর্শক য়োষেফ আসছে| তাকে মেরে ফেলার
KJV : And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
YLT : And they say one unto another, `Lo, this man of the dreams cometh;
RV : And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
RSV : They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer.
ASV : And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
ESV : They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer.
ERVEN : They said to each other, "Here comes Joseph the dreamer.

BNV : টি রৌপ্যমুদ্রার বিনিময়ে বিক্রী করে দিল| বণিকরা এবার তাকে মিশরে নিয়ে চলল|
KJV : Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
YLT : and now, come, and we slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and have said, An evil beast hath devoured him; and we see what his dreams are.`
RV : Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, An evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
RSV : Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild beast has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams."

ERVEN : We should kill him now while we can. We could throw his body into one of the empty wells and tell our father that a wild animal killed him. Then we will show him that his dreams are useless."

BNV : কিন্তু রূবেণ য়োষেফের প্রাণ বাঁচাতে চাইল|
KJV : And Reuben heard [it,] and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.
YLT : And Reuben heareth, and delivereth him out of their hand, and saith, `Let us not smite the life;`
RV : And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand; and said, Let us not take his life.
RSV : But when Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his life."
ASV : And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, Let us not take his life.
ESV : But when Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his life."
ERVEN : But Reuben wanted to save Joseph. He said, "Let's not kill him.

BNV : সে বলল, “আমরা তাকে হত্যা করব না| এস, আমরা তাকে হত্যা না করে বরং বিনা আঘাতে ঐ শুকনো কূপের মধ্যে ফেলে দিই|” রূবেণের পরিকল্পনা ছিল য়োষেফকে এইভাবে উদ্ধার করে তার পিতার কাছে ফেরত পাঠানোর|
KJV : And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, [but] cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.
YLT : and Reuben saith unto them, `Shed no blood; cast him into this pit which [is] in the wilderness, and put not forth a hand upon him,` -- in order to deliver him out of their hand, to bring him back unto his father.
RV : And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood; cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him: that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.

ERVEN : While Joseph was in the well, the brothers sat down to eat. They looked up and saw a group of traders traveling from Gilead to Egypt. Their camels were carrying many different spices and riches.

KJV : And he knew it, and said, [It is] my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.
