ತರುವಾಯ “ಆಯಿ”ಯ ಅರಸನು ಇಸ್ರೇಲರ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದನು. ಅರಸನು ಮತ್ತು ಅವನ ಜನರು ಇಸ್ರೇಲರ ಸೈನ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ ಮುಗಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತ್ವರೆಮಾಡಿ ಹೊರಟರು. “ಆಯಿ”ಯ ಅರಸನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಪೂರ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದನು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿದ್ದ ಸೈನಿಕರನ್ನು ನೋಡಲಿಲ್ಲ.

આયના રાજાએ યહોશુઆના માંણસોને જોયા એટલે તે અને તેના માંણસો ઇસ્રાએલી સેના સાથે લડવા માંટે ઉતાવળે બહાર નિકળ્યા. તેઓએ શહેર છોડ્યું અને યર્દનની ખીણ તરફ ગયા. આયના રાજાને ખબર નહોતી કે નગરની પાછલી બાજુએ માંણસો બધાને માંરી નાખવા માંટે અને શહેર પર હુમલો કરવા સંતાયેલા હતા.
