କିନ୍ତୁ ସହେି ନଫୁସକାଧିପତି ଦାନିୟେଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, "ମୁଁ ମାରେମୁନିବ ରାଜାଙ୍କୁ ଭୟ କରେ। ଯଦି ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ସେ ଆଦେଶ କରିଥିବା ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଓ ପାନୀଯ ଗ୍ରହଣ ନକର, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ରୁଗ୍ଣ ଦଖାୟିବେ ଓ ଦୁର୍ବଳ ଅନୁଭବ କରିବ। ଯଦି ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଅନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଶୁଖିଲା ଦଖାୟୋଅ, ରାଜା ମାେ ଉପ ରେ ରାଗିବେ ଏବଂ ମାରେମୁଣ୍ତ କାଟ କରିବେ। ତା'ପ ରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଏହି ଅପରାଧ ପାଇଁ ଦୋଷୀ ସାବ୍ଯସ୍ତ ହବେ।"

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which [are] of your sort? then shall ye make [me] endanger my head to the king.

But Ashpenaz told Daniel, "I am afraid of my master, the king. He ordered me to give you this food and drink. If you don't eat this food, you will begin to look weak and sick. You will look worse than other young men your age. The king will see this, and he will become angry with me. He might cut off my head. And it would be your fault."
