ಹೆರೋದನು ಪೇತ್ರನನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆ ತರಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದ ಅದೇ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನು ಎರಡು ಸರಪಣಿಗಳಿಂದ ಕಟ್ಟಲ್ಪಟ್ಟು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಸೈನಿಕರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿದ್ರೆಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು; ಕಾವಲುಗಾರರು ಬಾಗಿಲ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಂತು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಯು ತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
